Samford Pool  Swim Lessons

Swim lessons are offered May - August each year through Auburn Parks and Recreation. We provide lessons for swimmers of all ages and skill levels at Samford Pool.

Registration for all lessons has closed for Summer 2021.

COVID-19 Note: Class sizes will be reduced and parents will not be permitted to stay on the pool deck for swim lessons with the exception of Sea Babies where parent participation is required. Additional COVID-19 waiver is required for registration.

Classes Offered

Sea Babies (ages 6 months - 3 years): For parents to learn how to acquaint their child to the water in a fun and controlled environment. Participants will be led through introductory skills and techniques, games, and songs. Parents/guardians in the course must be comfortable in the water as they will be directly responsible for the instruction of their child. A 1:1 parent to child ratio is required for safety and children should where swim diapers if not potty trained.

Guppies (ages 4-6 years): For soon-to-be swimmers to learn how to submerge underwater, kick, float, and return to wall/steps independently. Participants will be in a group and guided by the instructor in each skill.

Advanced Guppies (ages 5-6 years): Participants should have passed Guppies and be at least 5 years old. Participants will begin to learn rotary arm motions, proper breathing in water, and continue floating on back.

Sea Turtles (ages 7-10 years): Young swimmers will learn rotary arm motions with simultaneous kicking. They will build on previous skills and begin kicking on back, side breathing, and unassisted entry and exit.

Dolphins (ages 11-14 years): Participants will learn to kick off wall in streamline position on front and back, dive from side of pool, and begin treading. Class is designed to prepare students for swim team.

Sharks (ages 15-18 years): Swimmers will learn to build endurance in freestyle and breaststroke, and will build on fundamentals of backstroke and butterfly.

Big Fish/Adult (ages 19+ years): It is never too late to learn to swim! This class will be customized to the participants in the class and can include everything from basic skills to fitness instruction.

Private Lessons (all ages): Private instruction can help swimmers of all ages! In this new offering, you can find a time that fits your schedule and have a customized class. Note: private lessons follow the same schedule as group lessons.
